Short Story

Module learning outcomes:

  • Identify new perspectives in creative storytelling, via the critical evaluation of a range of media in terms of production styles, visual interpretation and storytelling.

This was a final year project. The brief was to tell a short story by whatever medium we chose. I chose to deliver a children’s book that had a moral to the story. I came up with three concepts and then chose one that I felt my target audience of Key stage 1 children, struggled with the most. This was being afraid of the dark. I chose to make to the follow a AA,BB rhyming pattern to make the flow better. My aim is to finish the book, have it physically printed and then create a simple animated version of the story, like the virtual read along storybooks.

Bella’s Adventures: A story of friendship and courage

In the quaint village where Bella dwells, the night brings not rest, but fear. Yet, in the twinkling darkness, an unexpected visitor arrives—a quirky alien named Zurka. With a promise of adventure and a hand extended in friendship, Zurka whisks Bella away on a journey through the cosmos, unveiling the enchanting beauty that hides behind the veil of night. Together, they dance among the stars, wander through whimsical worlds, and discover that courage and friendship can illuminate even the darkest of nights. Join Bella and Zurka on an unforgettable odyssey where fear transforms into wonder and the mysteries of the universe become their playground. Through their tale of bravery and companionship, “Bella’s Adventures: A Story of Friendship and Courage” reminds us that the night is not something to be feared, but to be embraced.

The project

Component 1 was a 10 minute presentation showing a proof of concept along with my planning process, visual materials such as storyboard’s and mood board’s, research and anything else that went in to the design and planning of my project, such as updates of my Trello project management boards. Component 2 was to present my project as a finished article. Which is to be a printed, finished children’s book.
